On July 25, 2025 fraymedia Foundation held its monthly Rise & Shine Women in Media Breakfast Series, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The monthly Breakfast Series brings together 20 invited women in media and business—including media owners, editors, journalists, managers, producers, advocacy leaders, and women frequently quoted in the news—for a reflective and strategic conversation on current geopolitical events, trends, and their impacts in media, entrepreneurship and
society.
This month's Breakfast Series featured keynote remarks by Taahir Hoorzook, Chief Operating Officer, of The Digital Afrikan (Pty) Ltd, unpacking Pluralism, Creativity, and Leadership in an AI-driven Media World. Taahir Hoorzook is a business growth leader, entrepreneur, media and communications professional and digital strategist.
The open and dynamic conversation covered a variety of topics, including, and not limited to:
• How can we actively promote diversity and counter bias in a media landscape increasingly
influenced by algorithms?
• In what ways does AI reinforce or undermine the media’s responsibility to uphold pluralism
and diverse perspectives?
• Most importantly, what actionable frameworks and leadership approaches can we develop
to ensure AI serves as a tool that enhances creativity, amplifies diverse voices, and upholds
journalistic integrity?
